EQUALS Moving On Moderation Procedure
a) Introduction
The ‘Moving On’ is a flexible post 16 curriculum of three, one-year programmes which allows for students to be assessed and awarded nationally moderated certificates. Support advisers/moderators co-ordinate a regional network for training and external moderation.
b) Registration
Please register your establishment to moderate you students for Moving On and return by mid October of the current academic year.
Moving On - Annual School/Establishment Registration
You will receive the Pre-course information form for details of contacts and students. Please return by mid November. This will assist the administration of the moderation procedure.
You will be invoiced separately for student certificates @ £1.50 per certificate once students have been moderated and approved.
c) Assessment
• A Portfolio of Evidence for each student should be presented by the school and should consist of three samples of work for each subject area.
• Subject Areas and Key Skills are accredited by internal and external moderation.
• School Based Certificates may be awarded if students have not completed all three units for a subject area. Please retain copies of these certificates and relevant evidence for future external accreditation.
• The Level Descriptions (linked to ‘P’ scales) should be used at the beginning and end of each programme. They should be used to decide on the level at which the students enter a subject area and to indicate the level of attainment on completion of that subject. In order to pass a level description the student must pass all of the items within that statement.
• The Sets are used during the learning process to indicate the level of attainment for a particular unit. All three units for a subject area must be completed.
• Key Skills being accredited for each student should consist of evidence of 3 samples of work relating to the level description in that skill, each sample to be taken from different Subjects. Each Key Skill needs to be demonstrated by evidence from across a range of subject areas and the level achieved is judged by matching the evidence to the Key Skills Level Descriptions.
Evidence submitted can comprise of:
- Annotated photographs.
- Written teacher descriptions.
- Student’s written work.
- Student’s drawings, paintings and craft work with written teacher comment.
Evidence must:
- Clearly indicate the specific individual student behaviour that took place.
- Indicate a range of activities drawn from the subject area or a range from across the subject areas in the case of key skills.
- Reflect the language of the expected learning outcomes.
- Indicate the level of adult support.
