“P Scales provide a common language within and between schools for pupils with
Special Educational Needs”

"Performance Levels or ‘P Levels’ are now well established in schools as a means of assessing the attainment of pupils working towards Level 1 of the National Curriculum. The PACE2 Scheme offers a series of assessment tasks for every strand of every P Level in the areas of English, Maths, Science and PSHE & C. In this way it is possible to measure the P Level attainment of pupils rather than use best fit judgements. This promotes greater reliability within and between schools. PACE2 also includes tasks up to and including Level 2a of the National Curriculum.”

From September 2007 it became a requirement for all schools to use P Levels
to report on pupils who are attaining below National Curriculum Level 1.

This means that teachers are required to make assessments of these pupils using the P Level attainment scales and schools will report on these assessments.
