These Schemes of Work have been written by teachers who have expertise in Special Education. They are currently teaching pupils who are working with the full range of the P Scales and the early levels of the National Curriculum. The information has also been reviewed and critically reviewed by another group of teaching professionals, including Head Teachers and School Inspectors.
We hope that you will find the materials helpful when working with pupils who are achieving within the eight levels of the P Scales, the first two levels of the national curriculum and across all four key stages.
In writing these examples of good working practice, special consideration was given to the current mainstream and Special Education guidance from the QDCA at the time.
What is the purpose of these Schemes of Work? In these Schemes of Work the materials are designed to help schools develop their Special Education framework. Schools may plan to address other aspects of the framework in conjunction with this guidance, building on links identified in the units. The Schemes of Work illustrates the different ways in which teachers can develop Special Education learning opportunities to respond to the specific needs and priorities of the pupils, their communities and the schools themselves. It also builds on pupil’s experiences and earlier learning from the Foundation Stage.
Who are these Schemes of Work for and what does it include? These Schemes of Work are for all teachers involved in the delivery of Special Education and for Head Teachers and Governors with responsibility for developing these areas of the curriculum. The Schemes of Work consists of exemplar teaching units that can be combined in different ways to address Special Education. The units may be supplemented with materials from other subjects and sources.
